What is Jackfruit ?
The Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is a species of tree in the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family (Moraceae) native to South India.
The tree is well suited to tropical lowlands, and its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit. It can produce about 100 to 200 fruits in a year. It is a multiple fruit, composed of hundreds to thousands of individual flowers, and it is the fleshy petals that are eaten.
Jackfruit is a sweet, delicious and exotic fruit that is packed with many nutrients and benefits. It is known as the jack of all fruits. Rich source of vitamin, minerals, phytonutrients, carbohydrate, electrolytes, fiber, fat and protein. This fruit also contains calorie but no cholesterol or saturated fats. Jackfruit Health Benefits
In order to avoid wrinkles on your skin take a seed of it and grind it smoothly in cold milk for some time. Apply this paste on your face regularly to keep fine lines away. Soak the seeds with some milk and honey and grind it into a fine paste. Apply this on your face evenly and let it dry completely. Wash off with lukewarm water.
It has antioxidants, phytonutrients and flavonoid that provide protection from cancer. Antioxidants in these protect the body from free radicals. Free radicals are produced due to oxidative stress in the body. This damages the DNA of your cell and produces cancer cell. How to select
It can be found fresh or canned. If choosing the canned version, make sure there aren’t any added sugars or preservatives. Instead look for jackfruit found in water and brine. If buying it fresh, make sure to get a ripe one. To do this, look for yellowish skin with spikes that have softened.
If you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, take caution. If you have an allergy to birch pollen, you may experience an allergic reaction to jackfruit. Though it may help reduce levels of blood sugar, diabetics should be cautious. You may experience drowsiness if using certain medications while consuming it. It may be best to stop consuming any form of jackfruit prior to surgery.
