Pathimukham(പതിമുഖം) is also known as SappnWood, East Indian red wood and bukkum wood tree.
And in Malayalam, it is also known as Chappangam. It grows up to a height of 10 meters.It contains compound leaves.The branches of the tree contain thorns.The tree bears Yellow coloured and fragrant flowers.Its bark, heartwood, flower and roots are all used in Ayurveda for its medicinal value.The tree is commonly found in India.
The heartwood is white in colour but when it is cut and dried in the air it becomes red.The heartwood of the tree is red in colour and also it is hard and heavy.And this colour diffuses into the water when it is boiled in water.The water with heartwood is a rich source of minerals.Thus it exhibits diuretic, anti-oxidative, thirst quenching, anti-bacterial and tonic properties.
