Ingredients

  • Tuvar dal/sambar dal – 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Long gourd/padavalanga – 2 cups (small cubes)
  • Potato finely cubed – 1 cup
  • Grated coconut – 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Tomato chopped – 1/2 cup
  • Ginger – 1tsp
  • Garlic – 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 1 sliced
  • Turmeric – 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp

Seasoning

  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Kashmiri dry red chillies – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 3 stalks
  • Refined oil – 3 tbsp

Method

  • Wash dal well. Pressure cook in two and one fourth cups of water for 2 whistles cool
  • Add turmeric,red chilli powder,salt,tomato,potato,long gourd pressure cook cor 1 whistle let it cool
  • Grind grated coconut,1/4 tsp cumin into a semi coarse paste
  • Open cooled contents in in pressure cooker, add ground coconut paste.Stir well.
  • In a hot work,heat oil,sputter mustard seeds,twist in the middle,tear and drop dry red chillies,curry leaves.
  • Saute ginger,garlic,green chilli
  • Over low flame,pour the vegetable mixture to the mustard seasoning
  • Check salt
  • Sprinkle curry leaves
