Method of preparation
  • Wash the raw bananas and slice it to 2-inch sized pieces
  • Heat 5-6 cups of water in a pan, bring it to a boil. Add the raw banana pieces to the water. Continue heating until the banana pieces are well cooked.
  • Take out the banana pieces from the water and keep it aside for cooling. Remove its skin and mash it to a paste.
  • Now, heat some oil in a pan and add the fennel seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  • Also, add the crushed garlic pieces followed by turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Saute it until the raw smell disappears.
  • Add the broken cashew nuts and fry it for few seconds. Follow this with grated coconut and saute it for few minutes. Keep in mind that the coconut pieces should not be dry roasted completely.
  • Now, add the banana paste and mix it well. Cook it for few minutes as the banana paste gets well coated with the masalas.
  • Add the roasted Bengal gram and saute the mixture for few seconds. Switch off the flame and wait for it to cool down completely.
  • Transfer the mixture to a mixer and grind it to a coarse mixture.
  • Heat some oil for frying in a deep frying pan, take out some portion of the coarse mixture and roll it to form a gooseberry sized ball and fry them on medium flame.
  • Fry it to a slightly golden brown colour. Once it is crispy fried, take it off from the oil and place them on paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • Serve it hot with a cup of tea or coffee.
