How to make tomato ketchup at home?
Every one of us are familiar with the tomato ketchup available in shops. Not many of us are aware of the ingredients used and the method of preparation of this dish. This is a simple homemade tomato sauce recipe that can be prepared within 1 hour. As there are no strong preservatives added in it, you need not worry about consuming more of this yummy sauce. Ingredients used for Tomato ketchup
- 1 kg of ripe tomato
- 5-6 cardamom / Elakka
- 5 tablespoon of sugar
- 7-8 cloves
- 2-inch piece of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of chilli powder
- 1½ inch piece of ginger
- 6 medium sized garlic cloves
- 2 tablespoon of vinegar
- 2 teaspoon of salt
Method of preparation
- Wash the tomatoes and chop it into small sized pieces.
- Chop the ginger and garlic into fine pieces.
- Now, saute the chopped ingredients in a non-stick pan. Also, add the chilli powder, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon.
- Cover the pan with the lid, use a medium flame and cook the ingredients for 25 minutes. Occasionally stir it.
- Take off the pan from the heat and mash the ingredients.
- Now, pour the mixture through a fine strainer and filter the solution.
- Transfer the strained tomato sauce to a non-stick pan and add some sugar, vinegar and salt.
- Use a medium flame and cook the mixture for 20-25 minutes. Continuously stir the solution until it becomes thick.
- Store the tomato sauce in an airtight container.
- Keep it in refrigerator so that it last up to 4 weeks.
