Chandrakaran mango (ചന്ദ്രകാരൻ) This Kerala variant is the most expensive and costly mango variety found in the state and is used in preparing traditional item Mambazha Pulissery.The mango is a juicy fruit belonging to the Genus Mangifera,flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. The majority of these species are found in nature as wild mangoes. Mangifera indica—the “common mango” or “Indian mango”—is the only mango tree commonly cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions.Mango is the national fruit of India,Philippines and Pakistan. In the past, trees of native mango varieties used to be lavishly seen almost everywhere in Kerala. In the southern parts of the State such varieties that tempted even jaded palates included Karpooram, Kilichundan, Chandrakaran, kesar,moovandan..Though there are nearly 1000 varieties of mango in India, only following varieties are grown in different states : Alphonso, Bangalora, Banganpalli, Bombai, Bombay Green, Dashehari, Fazli, Fernandin, Himsagar, Kesar, Kishen Bhog,Langra, Mankhurd, Mulgoa, Neelam, Samarbehist, Chausa, Suvarnarekha, Vanaraj and Zardalu.
Chandrakaran Mango – One of the tastiest varieties
It grows on different heights and is seen from lower branches to the top ones. Usually it is seen in clusters and grows in abundance. These mangoes have a sweet, juicy flavour and are slightly smaller when compared to ordinary ones. Raw variety has a sour flavour and is used for making various mouth watering recipes. Chandrakaran mango known to be one of the most Popular varieties mangoes in Kerala, it is also the most expensive one to be found in the state. It is used in the traditional households for making mambazha pulissery.
ചന്ദ്രകാരൻ മാങ്ങ കേരളത്തിൽ സാധാരണ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ബഹുഭ്രൂണി മാവിനം. ചുവടുമുതൽ ശാഖകൾ കാണുന്നു. കുലകുലകളായി കായ്കൾ സമൃദ്ധിയായിക്കാണുന്നു. നാട്ടുമാവിന്റെ ഫലത്തേക്കാൾ വലുതെങ്കിലും ചെറിയ ഇനത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട മാങ്ങയ്ക്ക് മധുരം കൂടുതലാണ്. പച്ചയ്ക്ക് പുളിയും സവിശേഷ ഗന്ധവുമുള്ളതിനാൽ ഫലം പച്ചയ്ക്ക് കറിവയ്ക്കാനും ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. മാങ്ങയ്ക്ക് ചെനപ്പ് കുറവാണ്. ചാറു ധാരാളമുള്ളതിനാലും നാരുകൾ അടങ്ങിയതിനാലും വലിച്ചുകുടിയ്ക്കാൻ ഉത്തമമാണ്. ഇളം മാങ്ങകൾ കണ്ണിമാങ്ങ അച്ചാറുകൾക്ക് നല്ലതാണ്. ഇതിന്റെ ഇളം കായ്കൾ നാട്ടുമാവിന്റെ ഇളം കായ് പോലായതിനാൽ വിപണിയിൽ കബളിപ്പിക്കലിന് സാധ്യത കൂടുതലുമാണ്.

Detect artificially ripened fruit – Try to buy fresh natural mangoes – An artificially ripened mango lacks uniformity in colour. It will have green and yellow patches around the surface. Moreover, the fruit gets yellow colour on the outside, but the pulp doesn’t ripen properly and does not taste sweet.
- The colour and texture of mangoes is not uniform them avoid to buying that fruits .
- Avoid buying fruits in off season. Try to buy from established shops
