What is incha ?  (Enja or Encha ,Nikuncham,Eencha Acacia caesia wild)

Acacia caesia (L.) Willd. is an armed woody straggling shrub of medicinal importance belongs to the family, Mimosaceae, distributed widely in the foot hills of the Western Ghats around the altitude of 500ms above msl. For its medicinal properties, the traditional healers of western districts of Kerala ,Tamil Nadu (Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode and Dindigul) prescribed the species for various ailments. The leaves are used as vegetable and in the treatment of asthma, skin diseases,menstrual disorders,and scabies.

A perennial, woody climbing shrub grows over large trees. Leaves compound, leaflets 8-15 pairs, oblong-ovate, small and glabrous. Flowers whitish in axillary or terminal panicles. Fruits thin long pods, brown colored, contain 3-5 small compressed seeds.

Encha or Eanja Incha – Used as a scrubber during bathing.

It is traditionally used for bathing after ayurvedic oil massage.Carefully dried and hygienically packed, incha fibre can be used as a natural bath scrubber for a long time.It is a good natural antibacterial and commonly used for burning sensation and other skin diseases. The crushed stem is used as a natural scrubber for bathing.

പണ്ട്, ദേഹമാസകലം എണ്ണ തേച്ച്, ഇഞ്ച ഉപയോഗിച്ചുള്ള കുളി,അന്നത്തെ ആഢംബരമായ സ്നാനാനുഭവമാണ് ഇഞ്ച നല്‍കിയിരുന്നത്. ചര്‍മ സംരക്ഷണത്തിനും ശരീര കാന്തിക്കും ഉത്തമമാണ് ഇഞ്ച എന്നത് പഴമയുടെ അറിവാണ്. ആയുര്‍വേദം വിധിക്കുന്ന സുഖകരമായ സ്നാനങ്ങളിലൊന്നുമാണ്.എന്നാൽ ഇഞ്ച നിർമികുന്നതു അത്ര എളുപമുള്ള പണിയല്ല. കാടുകളില്‍ പടര്‍ന്നുകിടക്കുന്ന ഇഞ്ച കണ്ടാല്‍തന്നെ ഭയം തോന്നും. ചുവട്ടില്‍നിന്ന് ഇലവരെ മുള്ളുകള്‍ കൊണ്ട് ആവരണം തിര്‍ത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ഇഞ്ചപ്പടര്‍പ്പിന്റെ സമീപത്ത് വന്യജീവികള്‍പോലും പോകാറില്ല.എന്നാല്‍ കാടിന്റെ മക്കള്‍ക്ക് അത് പ്രശ്നമല്ല. വെട്ടുകത്തിയുമായി ഇഞ്ചപ്പടര്‍പ്പിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുന്ന അവര്‍ മൂപ്പെത്തിയ തണ്ടുകള്‍ ആറടി വീതം നീളത്തില്‍ മുറിച്ചെടുക്കുകയാണ് ആദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നത്. പിന്നീട് മുള്ള് നീക്കം ചെയ്ത് വനത്തിനുള്ളിലെ കുടിലുകളില്‍ എത്തിക്കും. തണ്ടില്‍നിന്ന് തൊലി തല്ലി ഉരിച്ച് പരന്ന പ്രതലത്തില്‍വച്ച് തല്ലി ചതച്ചശേഷം രണ്ട് ദിവസം വെയില്‍ കൊള്ളിച്ച് ഉണക്കിയാണ് വില്‍പ്പനയ്ക്ക് എത്തിക്കുന്നത്.ഉണങ്ങിയ ഇഞ്ച കത്തിച്ചാലുണ്ടാകുന്ന പുക കൊതുകു നശീകരണത്തിനും നല്ലതാണ്. ഇഞ്ച ഇടിച്ചുപിഴിഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്ന നീര് തേച്ച് കുളിക്കാനും ഉത്തമമാണ്.
