How much jackfruit does India waste?
Nobody knows for sure. Some say 75 per cent. According to some sources, Kerala wastes around 35 crore jackfruits annually. State wise area and production figures for jackfruit are not easily available. In fact, nobody seems to have taken jackfruit seriously so as to compute such statistics from time to time.An accurate data is not available on the area under jackfruit cultivation or the volume of the fruit produced, let alone the wastage. There is a huge data gap. But going by the different reports, the country could be wasting jackfruit worth Rs 2,000 crore. The actual loss could be much higher.If we take the same basic figures, and wastage on Kerala and Karnataka would each exceed One Crore Rupees each every year.

Method of preparation
- Soak 250gm of dried jackfruit slices in clean water for 4 hours.
- Once it is soaked for 4 hours, the dried jackfruit pieces would drink up the water and increase its size.
- Do not drain off the water, since it will reduce its benefits.
- Transfer it to a cooker and cook it for 2-3 whistles.
