Pottukadalai Chutney Recipe
Pottukadalai Chutney recipe is a simple and easy chutney made with Pottukadalai or Roasted Gram Dal. This chutney recipe goes well with idli and it can be made with or without coconut pieces. Gram dal, green chillies, ginger and tamarind are the important ingredients used in this recipe. The use of grated coconut would provide a white texture. The pottukadalai makes this chutney really yum. And the water can be adjusted to get suitable consistency. Have a look at the list of ingredients and preparation method.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup of grated coconut
- ½ cup of Fried gram dal / Pottukadalai
- 4-7 Green chillies
- ½ inch piece of Ginger
- A small piece of Tamarind
- ½ cup of water for grinding + ½ cup of water for mixing
- Salt as per taste
For Tempering
- 2 teaspoon of Cooking oil
- ½ teaspoon of Mustard seeds
- Few curry leaves
- A pinch of Asafoetida / Hing / Kayam
Preparation
- Take all the ingredients specified in the ingredients section in a mixer.
- Use ½ cup of water for grinding. Ground it form a smooth paste.
- Transfer it to a bowl and add ½ cup of water to increase the consistency.
- Heat some oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida for tempering.
- Once it ready, add it to the chutney and mix it well.
- Serve it as a side dish for idli, dosa and paniyaram.
