Sweet Samosa

Sweet Samosa is a popular snack traditionally famous among all sections of people. Every year people make this delicious dish during the Deevali season.  As in the case with many of the snack varieties, the use of sugar gives a sweet taste. Sweet samosa has a crispy exterior made of maida and rava, attains a light brown or orange colour on frying. Garam dal or Puttukadalai flour along with freshly grated coconut and sugar are used as fillings. Powdered cardamom seeds are gives a natural flavour. Ingredients Required
  • ½ cup of All-purpose flour or Maida
  • 1 tablespoon of Rava / Semolina
  • 2 teaspoon of Ghee
  • ½ teaspoon of Sugar
  • A pinch of Salt
  • Water as required (1/3 cup)
Ingredients for stuffing
  • ½ cup of freshly grated Coconut
  • ½ cup of Puttukadalai / Garam Dal
  • ½ cup of Sugar
  • 2-3 grinded Cardamom seeds (remove the skin and grind)

Preparation of Sweet Samosa
  • Take the Maida or All-purpose flour in a wide open bowl. Use a fine sieve and remove any lumps in the flour.
  • Add the rava and sprinkle some salt for the taste, mix it well.
  • Slowly pour some water and mix it to form soft and smooth dough. Knead it well and cover the dough with a sheet. Keep it for 1 hour.
  • Meantime, prepare the stuffing. Use a kadai and dry roast the grated coconut till it becomes dry.
  • Take the dal in a mixer, add the dried coconut and the cardamom seeds and ground it to coarse mixture. No need to use the water.
  • Add the sugar and again ground it to powder. Once the mixture becomes smooth, take it away from the mixer and keep it aside.
  • Now, take out some dough and make it to small balls. Dust it in some maida flour and press it to form a poori shape.
  • Cut this into two equal halfs and fold each halfs to a cone shape.
  • Put 2-3 teaspoon of fillings inside the cone shaped dough and close the opening and fold it to form a triangle.
  • Now repeat the same process to the rest of the dough.
  • Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or Kadai and add the prepared dough pieces.
  • Drop 2-3 samosas into the oil gently and fry both sides until golden brown colour.
  • Once it is ready, take it out from the oil and keep it aside for cooling. Serve this delicious sweet samosa snack with a cup of tea or coffee.
