Headaches are a common health problem and most of us have suffered it one time or another. But, are you aware of some of the remedies for headaches?

Headaches

Most people use counter medicines or pain killers for headaches. But frequent intake of pain killers can cause various other health problems. According to many studies, headaches are classified into three main categories: Migraine headaches, tension headaches and cluster headaches. Some of the causes leading to headaches are excessive smoking, excessive drinking, oversleeping, lack of water in the body, abnormal neuron activity, dehydration, overstraining of eye etc.

Headaches are defined as a pain anywhere in the region of head or neck. It is also considered as a symptom for many diseases. There exist many remedies for headaches. The use of natural ingredients in your diet can also be a solution for headaches. Let’s have a look at some of the tips for alleviating headaches.

Avoid dehydration by drinking water

Dehydration is known to be one of the main causes for headaches. If that’s the case, drinking a glass of cold water can help with relieving the pain. Taking cold water can gradually ease up the pain. It is recommended to have a daily intake of eight to ten glass of water. This will keep your body hydrated and helps to prevent the frequent occurrence of headaches.

Sleeping

Sleep well and establish regular sleeping hours

Migraines can be triggered with a poor night’s sleep. Oversleeping, sleep loss and changes to sleep schedules are considered as the common reasons for migraines and tension headaches. According to many of the studies, adult headache suffers should have an optimal sleep span of 7 to 8 hours per night. Anything that helps you relax can give you better sleep. Reading a book or listening to soothing music etc can promote better sleep. Avoid distractions like television and work materials to have a sound sleep.

Have a cup of coffee

Headaches are normally caused from the blood vessel spasms, inflammation/infection of meninges, dilated blood vessels and muscular tensions. Taking coffee in your diet can help to relieve headaches. Caffeine presence in coffee can reduce the swelling of the blood vessels and reduces pain. This is why caffeine is used as an essential ingredient in many of the painkillers. If you are already a frequent coffee drinker, caffeine withdrawal can also result in headaches.

Maintain a good posture

When it comes to tension related headaches, improving your posture can play a huge role in avoiding headaches. If you are sitting down at a computer without much of a movement and a poor posture, then the strain on our muscles can create nasty headaches. Make a conscious effort to sit up tall but relaxed, with your shoulders back, your chest open, and your neck not sticking too far forward. You can also use an ergonomic chair. Maintaining a good posture can help with the elimination of severe headaches.
