Ingredients

Bisi Bele Bath Powder:

  • Red chilli – 4
  • Cinnamon – 1-inch stick
  • Cloves – 2
  • Cumin – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 2 pinches
  • Coriander seeds – 1.5 tbsp

  • Rice – 3/4 cup
  • Toor dal – 1/2 cup
  • Shallots – 8
  • Lemon – small size
  • Jaggery – 1.5 tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tsp

  • Green peas – a handful
  • Beans – 5
  • Capsicum – 1/4 cup
  • Carrots – 1/2 cup

Instructions

Bisi Bele Bath Powder:

  1. In a pan, add all the ingredients listed for the powder and dry roast them. Set aside for cooling. Make a fine powder.

Preparation:

  1. Wash the rice properly and soak them for about 30 mins.
  2. Pressure cook both rice and dal separately for 3 whistles.
  3. In half cup hot water, soak tamarind. Squeeze it and filter in a bowl.
  4. Add the bisi bele bath powder, jaggery, salt to the prepared tamarind juice. Mix well, so that the lumps are removed. Set aside.
  5. Take dal, mash it, and add rice to it. Mash rice, if desired.

Bisi Bele Bath:

  1. In a pan, heat 1 tbsp ghee, add the mentioned vegetables and saute it for 3-4 mins.
  2. Add 1 cup water to the vegetables and cook it till they are 3/4th done.
  3. Pour the tamarind mixture. Stir well. Allow it to boil for few mins.
  4. Add the mashed rice dal and mix well. Add 1.5 cups water and mix well. Boil the rice on medium flame.
  5. Cook till the rice reaches the desired consistency.
  6. Pour the seasoning ingredients and season it and add it to the bisi bele bath.
  7. Serve it hot with papad.
