West Coast Fish Curry – Masala Fish Curry recipes
A fishy treat -West Coast Fish Curry
For the masala Ingredients
- Coconut ( Fresh and scrapped ) – 1/2 cup
- Onion sliced – 1 medium
- Tomato chopped – 1 medium
- Coriander – few springs
- Garlic – 8 pods
- Ginger – 1/2 inch
- Tamarind – Small ball
- Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Kashmiri dry red chillies – 5 in number
- Byadgi dry red chilli – 5 nos
- Peppercorns
Grind the above to a fine paste using one cup of water (if the masala is too thick add more water)
For the curry
- Fish (750 grams of Mackerel steaks)wash,drain and apply a little salt and keep aside
- Coconut Oil
- Onion (Sliced) 2 medium
- Green chilli (Slit) – 3
- Tomato (Sliced ) – 2
- Water – 2 cups
Method
In a deep pan heat oil and fry the onion till light brown,add the masala paste and cook till the raw flavour is gone, add green chilli,chopped tomato, water and bring to a boil
Once the curry starts to boil add the fish and salt to taste. Cook on a low flame cook for 10 minutes or till the fish is cooked. Serve hot with steamed rice
