Unakka meen kari – Sun dried fish curry
Dry fish mulaku curry is a traditional christian dish. Sund dried fish is heavily coated with salt before drying. to re-hydrate it and to remove excess salt it is washed and soaked in water before cooking. Open mouthed earthenware pots were usually used for the preparation of this dry fish curry.Kappa and dry fish curry is the one of the main recipes of Kerala. Let’s have a look at the ingredients required for making this recipe.
Cooking Ingredients
Serves-4
- Sun dried fish – 250gms
- Oil -2 tbsp
- Garlic chopped – 4 cloves
- Curry leaves – 3 stalks
- Salt – 1/2 tbsp
- kodampuli – 1-2 pieces or Raw mango – 3-4 pieces
Ground to a fine paste
- Shallots,chopped – 3 nos
- Ginger,chopped – 3cm piece
- Dry red chillies,torn into pieces – 8 nos
- Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
- Water – 4 tbsp
Wash fish and soak in water for an hour. Drain,dry and cut into 5cm pieces
Rub spice paste into fish and marinate for an hour
Heat oil in a pan,add garlic and curry leaves,and fry till the aroma of cooked garlic is released
Pour in scant 1/2 cup water and stir in fish . Cook over low heat for 10 minutes
Variation : Sund dried prawns can be cooked in the same way. Soak in water for 30 minutes only
