Diabetes is the condition in which blood sugar remains higher than normal.  This is due to either lack or insufficient action of the hormone insulin.Diabetes is diagnosed by blood sugar checking.  If the fasting blood sugar level is greater than 125 mg or after meal blood sugar level is >200 mg,diabetes is diagnosed .There are four types of diabetes

What you eat makes a difference in your cholesterol,blood glucose,blood pressure and weight.  A diabetes menu plan is a guide that tells you how much and what kinds of food you can choose to eat breakfast ,meals and snack time.  A good diabetes  menu plan or meal plan should fit in with your schedule and eating habits.  People with diabetes have to take extra care to make sure that their food is balanced with insulin and oral medications and exercise to help manage their blood glucose levels.When you make healthy food choices, you will improve your overall health and you can even prevent complications such as heart disease and some cancers.

A daily meal plan is an important part of your diabetes management, along with physical activity, blood sugar (glucose)checks and, often, diabetes medications.The table below shows diabetic menu plans, 1500 Kcal diabetic diet and 1800 Kcal Diabetic diet

Tea or coffee 6.30 am diabetic menu plan                      

Tea/coffee (without sugar) – 1 cup   (1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet  &  1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)     

Breakfast 8.30 a.m. (1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet  &  1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)

 

Wheat ada (without sugar) -3 nos   or

Wheat kozhukatta (without sugar) -3 nos or

Oats (3tbsp)with milk – 1 bowl (or)

Uppumavu  (wheat) -1 1/2 cup

Mid – Morning 10.30 a.m (1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet  &  1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)

Lime juice/Sambharam – 1 glass or

Ragi (4 tbsp) with milk -1 glass or

 Sprouted green gram -1 cup

Fish curry – 2nos or Dhal curry 1 cup

Curd – 100 ml.sprouted green gram -1 cup

Lunch 12.30 p.m.  (1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)

Rice or Roti – 1 1/2  cup/3 nos

Sambar  – 2nos or Dhal curry 1 cup

Egg white 1 no /Curd – 100 ml

Sprouted green gram thoran  -2  cup

Mid Time 2 p.m. (1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet  &  1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)

Lime juice/Buttermilk – 1 glass

Tea Time – 4 p.m.  (1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet  &  1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)                       

Tea or coffee (green tea without sugar) 1 glass

Wheat adda 1-nos/Oats uppumavu -1 cup

Dinner  7.30 p.m    ((1500 Kcal Diabetic Diet)        

Roti- 2nos /Wheat kanjee – 1bowl

Peas curry/sambhar – 1 cup

Vegetable thoran – 1 cup

Salad – 1 plate  healthy-salad for diabtes patients

Dinner  7.30 p.m. (1800 Kcal diabetic Diet)                                  

Roti- 3nos /Wheat kanjee – 1bowl

Peas curry/sambhar – 1 cup

  • Any fruit 1 number (apple,Orange,Guava,Robesta

  • Use chicken only once or twice in a month (Avoid Mutton and beaf)
